Ok, so apparently I was supposed to study before I go to school, but ended up watching TVD at this ungodly hour... Don't even say a word about it.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS THING PULLED WITH LEXI??? Lexi, aren't you supposed to be some sort of vampire shrink / blood rehab specialist? What's with the spell and the stake? They should've brought Jenna instead, really. She would take Elena to a nice place, have some chocolate ice-cream with her and talk some sense into her. The results would be similar, but the style - MUCH better.

Elena is my queen, full stop. STEFAN NEEDS TO SAVE HIMSELF, THANK YOU, ELENA!

Damon is having personal growth again. Oh boy.

So, the Lockwoods happen to have yet another family secret, and this one can kill Klaus. How convenient. Oh, and by the way, the secret seems all Lascaux. Just sayin'.

I have to admit, the Anna and Pearl scene was pretty touching.

Sorry, the hour really IS ungodly, so I'm incapable of having more complex thoughts. But if you do, please, indulge yourselves :).

Viking scriptures in Mystic Falls? LMAO, show. Just so you know. LMAO.

I enjoyed this episode a lot, actually. It had emotional resonance, something I don't expect from this show.

The Anna and Pearl scene almost made me tear up.

I loved that in the end they kept Anna's focus on her mother. This is a sort of happy end for them, isn't it? They were each other's unfinished business.

The personal growth was weird. Damon is perfectly capable of apologizing, especially to people close to him (he's apologized do Elena more than once). So I get it that he didn't want to give Mason the satisfaction, but not apologizing to Rick? Why would he behave like that?

I don't find it weird at all? All the times Damon has explicitly apologised to people in a serious business way have been when he's been really vulnerable (dying, almost died) or he knows that what he did was absolutely inexcusable (snapping Jeremy's neck). With Ric, I think he wishes Ric would cut him "slack" because he went out of his way to NOT cause lasting damage, so there's still plenty of room for his typical pride.

Yeah, Damon sort of has a warped sense of what is appropriate behavior, lol. Killing Alaric was so totally unnecessary - he's a vampire, surely he could've knocked him out with one punch or just, y'know, ran really fast. But Damon is Damon, so he has to be all dramatic and ~prove he's evil and shit.

And he expects Alaric (and everyone, really) to put up with his theatrics. He likes testing the boundaries, seeing how far he can push people before he actually pushes them away. He didn't expect Ric to reach his limit - I think he has this "Okay, I killed you, but you got better, so no harm done, right?" attitude so he thinks Alaric should just get over it. But once he realizes that he's finally pushed Ric too far and he's not getting over it, he apologizes.

I wonder if Damon even gets why Rick would be so angry with him. To some extent, killing Alaric was a way of "resolving tension" Damon uses when he's dealing with his own brother. I mean, when they were arguing in s1, from time to time one of them would end up stabbed / kicked into a wall etc by the other, and they never mentioned it afterwards, just a vampire way of "dealing" with a conflict, lol. So I'm kind of curious if Damon can figure out why is it such a big deal for Rick, when Stefan used to be ok with this pattern of behavior.

Hmmm, possibly. Although I'd expect him to understand at least that humans are more fragile than vampires, and so it's a bigger deal for them than for Stefan. But I think he kinda figured that Alaric would be all, "You killed me!" and Damon would be like, "Yeah... and?" and then they'd get over it. So... worth mentioning but not dwelling on?

I have this strong image of Damon being able to simply be civil in situations like that; I didn't expect him to show OMG REMORSE, but I thought he would realize that in this case it is in his best interest to be civil. When he wants to get on somebody's good side, he can be very polite (quite often he uses this trick with Bonnie, but with her it's rather "thank you" than "I'm sorry"). It might be that I have this picture in my head, but it comes from late s1 Damon, and it just didn't click im my head that he stopped doing it. Or maybe he just thinks that Rick deserves better than an off-hand, "polite" apology, but, as you said, is incapable of apologizing sincerely.

Lol, I need to keep an eye on Damon's apology patterns when I'm re-watching XD.

But - Damon-Alaric scenes were awesome. And Damon-Mason.

And where is Michael?

Haha, yeah, I did not get the thing with Lexi at all either. What was she supposed to be doing? Elena said she understood what to do now, but I definitely didn't.

I was kind of shock by how violent Lexi was, how much she took Stefan's agency away. But then I started to think about it, and I figured that this is the point - Stefan's friendship with Lexi, although pretty cool, was also very wrong on some level. Lexi was making herself responsible for Stefan, she was constantly "saving" him, and by doing that she was forcing him into helplessness. He didn't have to take full responsibility for staying "stable", because it was Lexi's job. And this episode pushed it to the extreme, and, by framing Lexi as horrific and violent, it finaly stated that Stefan cannot be saved unless he saved himself. I think this is what Elena understood from Lexi's show, especially since you could tell she didn't take it very well.

Yeah, all true. Stefan's right about Elena's tragic future if she takes it upon herself to save him instead of Lexi. He has to save himself, but it seems like he needs a push from someone else.
