dante_kent and I were thinking how many people from TVD fandom have some vampires in their past. And there is no better way to find out than a poll!

We'd like answers from the people who are/were into TVD fandom (reading/writing fic, taking part in discussions, reading/writing meta; LURKING ALSO COUNTS!*).

*Btw, this is also how "being in Buffyverse fandom" is defined in the poll. Even if you were just lurking, it counts!

Here's where I confess that I never watched Buffy. Well, I saw part of one episode once. That's all I've got.

I see :). And do you remember your initial reaction to the beginning of TVD? Let's say, to the frist half of s1? Because I had a good laugh re: "Show, you're trying so hard to be Buffy!", and I've been thinking how did it work for a person whose brain wasn't constantly making comparisons.

For me, I was comparing it to the TVD books. I only watched out of a sense of nostalgia. My initial reaction was: a) this is boring, b) Elena is supposed to be blonde, c) these characters are all so ridiculously conventionally pretty, and d) okay Damon is fun. Damon was the only thing that got me through the first four episodes.

Also I was watching it at around the same time as Being Human, so I was like, Being Human is how you do a proper vampire show. XD

Heh, yeah, but the week-to-week waits were brutal. It's funny actually because I feel like, no matter how many times I watch it as an adult, all my thoughts will still be based on my child-like first opinions. Like I actually do lack the ability to be critical about the characters. THEY ARE ALL FLAWLESS. Even though, no, they're not at all, I just can't though.

Oddly enough though, early TVD isn't remind me too much of Buffy? It seemed more like it was trying to borrow from Twilight. :| IT GOT OVER THAT THOUGH.

I've never seen Twilight, so my first TVD thoughts went straight to the first vampire thing I knew ;). Right now TVD is pretty much its own show, and that's awesome. I love Buffy, but I don't need Buffy 2.0.

Jak dla mnie liczy się i tu i tu, bo do TVD czytasz fiki :). Wypłynęło po prostu w dyskusji, że jak się rozmawia o Wampirkach i wypłynie coś o Buffy, to prawie wszyscy wiedzą o co chodzi, więc byłyśmy ciekawe, jaka jest ogólna tendencja.

This is a really interesting poll!! =)

I actually watched both Buffy and Angel when I was younger, but I had I didn't actually ~get into fandom until Harry Potter and Smallville much later on =/

tbh it didn't really effect my perception of TVD because I was too busy drawing comparisons between TVD and Twilight (which seemed like the ~obvious choice at the time lol) because that was the most recent "vampire related" series I'd come across *-)

The poll is not really about comparisons :). We were just having some Wesley flailing (http://upupa-epops.livejournal.com/113101.html), and we started wondering how is it that whenever you say something about Buffyverse among TVD people, many people seem to know what's what. dante_kent and I got curious, and we thought we could just get ourselves some numbers.

I never compared TVD to Twilight, because I'm not really familiar with it. This will probably change, because it feels unfair that I'm so negative about something I haven't read, but for now - I honestly know nothing beyond gossip. I haven't even seen the movies.

lol honestly, I read all the books/watched most of the movies and that did nothing to mitigate my intense dislike for the series. I will never understand why I continued despite deciding by the middle of the first book that it was rubbish, morbid curiosity perhaps?? IDEK lol

BUT I do know quite a few people whose tastes/ideas I generally agree with/respect that LOVE IT, was never the case for me though =/ I actually almost gave up on TVD because I felt the Pilot was so similar to the premise of Twilight and I COULD NOT DEAL with another adaptation of such nonsense, but then Damon showed up and he was more or less the reason I stuck with the show in those early days (and boy am I GLAD I did hehe).

Oh dear, you too? Honestly, I feel like I was adopting this cute puppy just a few days after my old and beloved dog died... Well, hypothetically, since I've never had a dog, but you get the general idea.
