I think I still have hopes for the show to do the right thing with Stefan, because they were kind of brutal about Damon in s2? He had to acknowledge that there is no switch, he got to do all those wrong things for love, there are no excuses for him (well, except for those made by Elena and Stefan, but it's clear that they just have a soft spot)... Of course there were some fuck-ups when it came to Damon, but generally no sugar-coating ensued.
And then... you have shit like 3.05, where Stefan is able to resist compulsion because of his love for Elena, and I'm just like BUT WHY. It's, like, COMPLETELY going back on the subversion of tropes they've established with Damon.
I'm right there with you. I shall speak of it no more, unless I learn to swear in English just as well as I can do it in my mother tongue. I am very good at swearing in my mother tongue. Creative and all.
If Stefan and Damon operate as symbols for the light and dark in Elena (which... they do), the narrative dictates that screwing Damon is necessary for Elena to confront her fears about adulthood and her own sexuality, etc. etc. TROLOLOL ELENA MUST FUCK DAMON FOR ~CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT REASONS.
But of course it's all about CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! What, you thought I wanted it to happen because I want to see, like, THE HOTTEST THING THIS SHOW HAS EVER DONE? What kind of person do you think I am? *GASP*
God, it will be even hotter than the "My sweet, innocent Damon" scene...
Yes to all your Elena thoughts. I never consciously thought about it in terms of Elena's sexual morality, but I have to agree. And, for now, I'm kind of ok with the fact that she is like this? That's how I was when I was 18, and getting to know that it's not necessarily always like that was quite a painful process ;).
The more we talk about them, the more I want to sit down and write a Big Damn Damon/Elena Meta That Includes Every Detail Of Their Relationship. I think that will be my plan for the next hiatus (shouldn't there be one in November? American Thanksgiving and stuff?)
