See, but I think the way she reaches out to him in the instances you mention--I think she's doing what she's doing in order to keep him unfamiliar? It's hard to explain. Like, really, she should already know that trying to get him to ~talk about his feelings will not work? But that's the approach she would take with everybody else she cares about. So she tries to fit him into the same box. She won't accept that their r/ship is a total anomaly, compared to all her other friendships. If she started communicating with him in a different way, then that would be too much intimacy. It's not that she's being naive by saying things like "we should be able to talk"; it's that subconsciously, she's trying to maintain a certain emotional distance from him.
