This? Is wondrous. I actually said out loud "YES, THANK YOU!" at the moment you wrote that Damon is still not over Katherine. Because INDEED HE IS NOT. He spend 150 years searching for a way to get her out of that tomb. There is no way those feelings will be going away overnight. How can he NOT associate Elena with the woman who she looks identical to? She's like the better parts of Katherine and I think he hopes that there might be some sort of redemption for him if only he can be better this time around. Terribly misguided, but that is basically Damon in a nutshell. Full of good intentions, crap at carrying them through.
