Once Upon a Time

I figured I'd behave like a Grown Up Person and NOT stay up till 4AM in order to do the TVD meme Day 5. But I can totally have a Once Upon a Time entry, and it will still count as Me Being a Grown Up, because, unlike an entry about my favorite TVD episode, it won't take over three hours to write.

Before I get started, just a little off-topic announcement: I still have many days available in the Meme of Doom, so if you want me to write something for you, don't be shy (even if you've already given me a prompt).


Once Upon a Time

I started watching this show, because, hey, since when am I able to resist a good fairy tale? Then I read somewhere that Emma Caulfield was supposed to appear in one of the episodes (she hasn't yet :(((), so I decided that I would be watching at least until that. 1x03 made me decide that Emma Caulfield or not, I'm watching it, period.

True, I'm a bit bored by the "main" plot with Henry, but fairy tale/real life parallels are so great I don't mind a moderate amount of boredom. Rumpelstiltskin just rocks (my favorite character from the very first episode, when he was crawling all over a prison cell and behaving like a madman), Snow White is a love child of Robin Hood and Ninja Turtles (probably all of them; she is so awesome that only two parents might not be enough to cope with that much awesomeness), and Prince Charming has leather pants is very charming indeed. At first I was afraid that the show going to be too close to the original fairy tale plots for it to make sense (I can read a storybook myself, can't I?), but no worries here; the writers actually re-interpreting. The show is a bit black-and-white when it comes to morals, but then we've only had three episodes, and it's a fairy tale-based show anyway, so perhaps this clear division is just a part of a convention that is going to be played out very well.

Generally speaking, if you're looking for sth new to watch, I can really recommend Once Upon a Time. And if you're already watching it - how do you like it?

Jak dla mnie Once Upon a Time to jedna z najlepszych premier tego sezonu, zaraz obok Amerian Horror Story i Suburgatory (lol!).

Urocza bajka dla wszystkich, którzy chcieli by choć na trochę powrócić do chwil pięknego dzieciństwa, bajkowego świata, a zarazem nie utopić się w słodyczy i połączyć to z codziennością i odrobiną intrygi :) Ogląda mi się go naprawdę przyjemnie. Jest zdecydowanie czymś innym wśród masy powtarzających te same schematy seriali, które zalewają ramówkę. Brakowało czegoś takiego w tv, serial ma naprawdę wielki potencjał. Zobaczymy jak będzie dalej.

Co do Henry'ego jest moim number one wśród wszelkich młodych bohaterów, jest uroczy! Na miejscu Emmy od razu bym go przygarnęła bez wahania xD

I like the show. It makes me happy. Just generally happy, like a good fairy tale. I don't even mind the black-and-white morals all that much.

Plus I'm having so much fun identifying different fairy tale characters. Do you know who the sherrif is supposed to be? I'm sort a stumped with him.

He could ba a mixture of many characters, but I was thinking more of the Hunter from Snow White - the one whom the Evil Queen tells to kill Snow White and who takes pity on her instead. It seems to fit the bill as far as his character is concerned at the moment (in regards to Emma - he seems to be doing everything Regina wants, but at teh same time he seems to have a lot of sympathy for Emma, etc.).

I'm not sure how much of agency people in "real world" have under this curse, so I'm willing to cut them some slack. I mean, Snow White/Mary Margaret for one does not really beahve in the same assertive way she did in the fairy tale world, and my pet theory is that it's partially the curse's fault. We'll see how it's going to develop, I guess? Too soon to tell, really.

Wiesz co, ja chyba po prostu nie przepadam za dzieciecymi bohaterami (poza Game of Thrones, ale tam dzieci zachowuja sie bardzo dorosle XD).

Zgadzam sie, ze Once Upon a Time jest wyjatkowo przyjemne, tak po prosty w formie czystej rozrywki. Moje wewnetrzne dziecko wyje ;)

That't my greatest entertainment with this show, I just sit in front of the screen and try to figure out who is who :D. I also think that the Sheriff is the Hunter, but I wonder who the Doctor is?

I wonder if the poor man likes playing bad people, or if he simply can't get any other kind of role.

As for the Doctor...I don't know. Fairy tale villains tend to be female (a fact I find both troubling and interesting), and I rather doubt he's Bluebeard. Blond and clean-shaven and all.

But maybe he's not a villain at all? Though it's not likely he's a hero.

(BTW, I absolutely LOVE that icon.)

To dziecko jest na w połowie urocze, a w połowie cholernie wkurzajace, imho. Trochę nierealistycznie wszyscy na niego reagują, bo jednak w normalnym świecie jak dzieciak kradnie nauczycielce kartę kredytową i obciąża ją na dwieście ileś dolców, to nie jest to coś, co nawet reprymendy nie wywoluje... Już nie mówiąc o tym, że jakbyśmy na chwilę uznali, że Regina nie jest Złą królową, to mamy bardzo niepokojący obrazek biednej kobiety, która usiłuje sobie dać radę z dzieckiem, które jest w okresie buntu i ją kompletnie odrzuca i jedzie sobie fndować "prawdziwą" matkę ;)

Ten brak realizmu zrzucałabym na ogólną dziwność tego miasteczka i kolejny dowód, że coś jest z nimi nie tak. Natomiast Regina faktycznie sprawia mi największy problem ze wszystkich bohaterów. To wygląda, jakby nie potrzebowała żadnej motywacji poza tym, że jest zła, cały czas przyglądam się jej uważnie i szukam jakiegoś twistu, który by pokazał, że są w niej jakieś inne warstwy. Nie potrafię wykombinować, czemu ma służyć ta skrajna demonizacja, oprócz podkreślenia, że Regina to Zła Królowa. Przykład z Henrym jako dzieckiem w okresie buntu świetnie to ilustruje.

Bo tak naprawdę to jeszcze nie widzieliśmy w ogóle, żeby ona zrobiła temu dzieciakowi cokolwie złego w sposób bezpośredni. On wygląda wręcz na dość dobrze wyżywionego, odzianego, itp. Wysyła go do szkoły, nie bije, "dba" o jego zdrowie psychiczne itp, a dalej niewiele mamy poza tym, że nam powiedziano, że ona go nie kocha, paru ostrych słów i grania jego emocjami w jednej scenie - i to wszystko. Jeszcze trochę za mało jak na Złą królową, nie? (Ale to akuat jest bardziej obiecujące niż ta przerysowana wersja ze świata baśni).

No właśnie jak na straszną i złą matkę jest zastanawiająco potulna, ale wszystko jest przedstawiane tak, że to ona jest potworem. Znaczy, zgoda, że to jest bardzo ciekawe i może jeszcze będzie dobrze rozegrane, ale na razie wyczuwam wokół niej aurę potępienia "bo tak", i cały krytycyzm wobec Reginy jest zupełnie bez sensu uzasadniany tym, że ona jest Złą Królową. Nie wiem, czy to dobrze formułuję... Jakby serial nie widział potrzeby, żeby w prawdziwym świecie dać jej jakąś motywację?

To może być dla mnie największy problem - zależy jak to rozegrają. Na razie kupuję to ich "jest zła, bo tak wam mówimy", bo liczę, że coś z tym jeszcze zrobią (nawet jeśli to jej zło ze świata baśni jest karykaturalnie przerysowane, więc mało obiecujące), ale jak to będzie tak brnęło zbyt daleko, to może mnie zacząć irytować.

ja też oglądam i też mi się podoba ;) bardzo przyjemny serial i taki uroczy, dobrze się na chwilę zapomnieć. A i bardzo lubię Jennifer, więc dla niej zaczęłam oglądać serial, i jak na razie Emma mi się podoba ;)

Hey there :) I'm loving OUAT so far. I was going to watch initially because I love Jennifer Morrison to bits (throwback to my House days) and then there was Ginnifer and I adore her too and it was just fangirl heaven.

BUT I HONESTLY CAN'T EVEN WITH EMMA CAULFIELD BEING ON IT. I JUST CANNOT. I only just found out about that actually. So I'm still on a high.

And then they told me Emilie de Ravin was going to be Belle. And just..

I'm a bit confused about Emma Caulfield part, because yesterday I wanted to check who she was going to play, and her name was gone from the list where I found it before :(. So I have a weird impression the news might turn out to be fake. I do not approve.

It's true about Emilie de Ravin, though, so there is something to be happy about.
