I'm at the point where I think that everyone in any fandom ever watched Buffy. It's just something we internet people all did. (I don't know how to do a poll...but I like the idea!)
Comparisons are absolutely inescapable, especially in a genre show. I find myself comparing vampire types all the time (this is what my life has come to). And the Stefan/Angel and Damon/Spike parallels are natural and even apt to a point, but I like my vampires unique, thank you very much. But crack!fic where vampires from different universes meet and bond is THE BEST. I would read your Spike-Damon--Eric fic. And I would love it.
(I also have a slight head!canon where Damon makes jokes about Stefan being Angel all the time - to everyone, including Stefan. Because it is canon that Damon watches Buffy. Just like us. DAMON AND HIS LIVEJOURNAL, THEY'RE BACK. I bet he had a whole post about how much Stefan is like Angel. Damon is an internet person, just like us.)
